Intentional Software Corporation was founded in August, 2002 by Dr. Charles Simonyi, previously a Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft Corporation, and Professor Gregor Kiczales, the leader of the development team for AspectJ programming language at PARC. Gregor Kiczales is now a full time professor of computer science at the University of British Columbia.
Intentional Software builds on the Intentional Programming project led by Charles Simonyi at Microsoft Research. The Death of Computer Langauges describes the vision for this project; there is also a video of the system. That system enabled programs to be written and viewed in a variety of specific notations, and also permitted the smooth integration of domain-specific and general-purpose programs. Intentional Software Corporation has signed a patent cross-license agreement with Microsoft Corporation to use the patents that were developed in this project.
